If you’re not looking for anything too fancy and are working with a budget, the Moov Now is an excellent fitness tracker for a bargain price.

3. Fitbit Alta HR

It’s not a fitness tracker discussion without Fitbit. The Fitbit Alta HR takes the minimalist design, Android and iOS compatibility, and sensitive tracking of previous Fitbit devices and tops it off with a heart rate sensor.

The only major issue is the display’s visibility – in sunny areas, sunlight easily overpowers the Alta HR’s screen and makes it unworkable. Other than that, it includes the essentials and steers clear of unnecessary animations to save battery life.

2. Samsung Gear Fit 2 Pro

The Samsung Gear Fit 2 Pro makes an attractive first impression with its gorgeous Super AMOLED screen that displays your fitness stats at a stylish glance. Hook it up to your smartphone and it will do everything from receiving notifications to responding to texts and emails with preset phrases.

While it’s got great compatibility with smartphones, the Gear Fit 2 Pro is also designed to be used independently. It tracks running, swimming, and other types of light activity by itself, and sends you reminders to move around when it detects you being inactive for too long. Store up to 4GB of music on the tracker and listen via Bluetooth headset.

Perhaps the one downer of the Gear Fit 2 Pro is that it needs to be charged every few days, but that’s a small inconvenience compared to all its useful features  at full charge.

While the Vivosport is waterproof up to 50m, it’s unable to track swim laps. Despite this drawback, the Garmin Vivosport is still a worthwhile buy for land-based fitness tracking.

The Vivosport also includes a unique feature: the stress-tracking gauge. It records your heart rate variability (the time in between individual heartbeats); the more variable, the more stressed you are.
