Absolutely, exercise can save you money on health expenses – but it can “save you” so much more than just money.

It’s Not that Tough, Time-Consuming, or Expensive

You don’t need a $1,500 home gym or an expensive membership.  Sure, there are some options that might be well worth a spot in your budget, but you have a lot of flexibility.  Take the following ideas:

  • Join a Gym: For less than $30 a month you can enjoy the full spectrum of equipment that your local gym offers.  Grab a buddy, or make a friend at their assortment of exercise classes, and you could be on your way to a healthier lifestyle.  It can be fun.
  • Sports: Other than the initial costs, you won’t spend money playing tennis at the local park with a friend, nor will you playing basketball.  Whether it’s a bike ride a few times a week, or jogging, there are plenty of options that cost nothing.
  • Join a Friend: For many types of exercise, a friend can make it more enjoyable as well as drive you to keep your schedule when life gets busy.  We saw previous examples, but there’s much more: for instance, your furry four-legged friend will certainly be up for a healthier lifestyle (it’ll be good for both of you).
  • Explore New Ideas: Perhaps you can learn how to ski on your next vacation, or mountain bike on your next road trip.  Or just try something new: a heavy bag can provide strength/cardiovascular benefits for very little upfront money.
