The New Health Insurance Reforms

This year, the Australian Government has announced a new system for categorising health insurance products. These product tiers are mandatory and if you have health insurance, chances are your insurer has already told you whether or not your policy is changing. Not only will your cover be grouped as basic, bronze, silver or gold cover, but you may have also been told your inclusions may have dropped.

• Gold Cover: covering all hospital options
• Silver Cover: Covering a large amount, with notable exceptions around weight loss surgery, pregnancy and birth, insulin pumps and more.
• Brozne Cover: excludes the above, in addition to cover such as back, neck and spine, dental surgery.
• Basic Cover: Limited inclusions around rehabilitation and palliative care.
